They are generally just novelties for logogogues. Even Lynch's edition, which is well done, is not adequate as an everyday working dictionary. If you're interested in a good, useful tool to work with in your studies, buy an unabridged edition. There are currently none in print in the US--though there is a nice UK version. But, my recommendation is to buy an antiquarian edition. Try a search at ABEbooks.com or at Alibris.com.
