Today is the Summer Solstice. It is the first official day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Interestingly, the earliest known poem written in vernacular English was written about this day:
Summer is ycomen in,
Loud sing cuckoo;
Groweth seed,
And bloweth mead,
And springeth the weed new
