The Constitution

Though they did not have the formal authorization of Congress and were thus, technically in violation of the laws of the land, the Constitution of the United States was completed and signed by a majority of delegates attending the constitutional convention in 1787 on this day in Philadelphia.

  1. Hmm. According to this article (http://www.hslda.org/courtreport/V21N4/V21N401.asp), it was legal.

  2. As a lawyer, I have to say that Mr. Ferris' reading of the events is interesting, but in the end fails to convince. The fact is, the Consitution is not merely a revision or a series of amendments to the Articles. It is an entirely new vision for the structure of the goverment, for the separation of powers, and for the federalization of certain governmental authorities. I do not believe that our respect for the Constitution is diminished an iota by recognizing that it was no procedural action on the part of a duly constituted committee of congress. Dr. Grant's version of the events is much more accurate and correct.
