Surprise, Surprise

What a surprise! The New York Times today endorsed the Democratic candidate for president, Barack Obama. Last time around, the influential daily newspaper endorsed John Kerry. The time before that, it endorsed Al Gore. Before that, it was two consecutive endorsements for Bill Clinton. Before that, it was Michael Dukakis. Before that, it was Walter Mondale. Jimmy Carter got two nods. Before that, it was George McGovern. Before that, Hubert Humphrey. Before that, Lyndon Johnson. And before that, John Kennedy. Umm. See the trend? In the last 100 years, the Times has endorsed only three Republicans. It just makes you wonder why the paper even bothers to announce their picks anymore.

  1. I know, I know, it's a lefty rag. It's still my homepage though.....cause I'm a Yankees fan. Like NPR, it's feigned objectivity. Ya know they just pretendin'.

  2. Jason: It's not my homepage, but I do have it bookmarked and scan through it every day. In fact, I think it's just about the only real newspaper left in America--book and restaurant reviews, articles about architecture, wide-ranging interest in the rest of the world. Sure, it's so Left that it never sees the sunrise, but it is always worth reading. I just wish it would stop the patronizing pretense.

  3. It is the paper of "record" George, and like you probably still the best all in all newspaper in the U.S. They seem to have a streak going on endorsements . Lets pray they keep it up ( lol) . The polls seem to be the same way, most of which a big win , 10 points or better , for Sen. Obama. Except that the one that have been correct in the past i.e the I.B.D have the race at a dead heat. All in all , whomever the victor , God is still the one who raises up kings for HIs purpose and this will be the same. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

  4. They did endorse two moderate Republican candidates for the House, I guess that's their way of being bipartisan.

  5. Dr Grant,
Since it is already past election day and everybody in the country knows that he is going to be our new president. What do you suggest we do in relation to standing up for the faith and for what we believe in.
