It's two months old, so you might have read it already, but an essay in Newsweek by David Gates called "The Pleasure of Rereading" is a pleasure itself. I thought of you when I read this, from a page in, In a recent New York Times op-ed in defense of rereading, Verlyn Klinkenborg lists some of his old favorites—he turns out to be a Dickens hound too—and concludes: "This is not a canon.
