Islamic Imperialism

Several correspondents have recently asked me about the history and character of Islamic imperialism, conquest, and terror across the centuries. In my lectures on Islam, I often refer to the fact that no nation has ever willingly converted to Islam. Every scrap of land, every person, every tribe, and every country currently under Muslim dominion was forcibly conquered and brought into submission--which prfobably should not surprise us since "submission" is actually the meaning of the word "Islam." This is a fact, however, often denied by modern historiography--citing the isolated and unusual instances of Malaysia and Indonesia which were conquered, but by Muslim pirates rather than by Muslim armies.

These two thoroughly documented books, one focusing on Muhammad's life and teachings and the other focusing on the history of the movement following his demise, help to give the plain historical facts new currency. Both books put an effective end to the notions that Islam is a noble religion of peace and that there ever has been an Islamic "golden age." Karsh, a professor of Mediterranean Studies at King's College in London and Craig Winn, a dotcom entrepreneur and widely published author, have assembled a massive amount of research--sure fodder for future academic inquiry.

Excellent. Thank you very much for pointing me in the right directions. Hopefully, this book will document the Malaysia and Indonesia issues.

RJ: Both books will be helpful in that regard.

Dr. Grant,
It appears that The Prophet of Doom is out of print. It's available for a hefty fee on Amazon. :-|

A book as important as that should be available--as should be "Blood and the Moon. ;-)

Got the Book: Islamic Imperialism. It's very good. I've been using it for my blog.

It's very clear their goal is to rule the world again. Recently, Hamas had a tv show for children and the Mickey mouse character said, "We've said more than once that becoming masters of the world requires the following: First, to be happy with our Arabic language, which once upon a time ruled this world."

The re-writing of history is occurring, or the perpetuation of the myth of a once golden era is still being perpetrated to the young, "Farfour: But Saraa, this is the language of the advanced world, the language of the world that understands and invents things, isn't it?

Saraa: No, Farfour, you are wrong, because you don't know that the Muslims are the basis of civilization. If not for the Muslims, the world wouldn't have got to where it is today."

Plus, now there is a Hezbolla base in South America, In light of borders and national security, do you have any comments on Hezbollah establishing a base in South America? IMO, it's the same old sounding marxist rhetoric the Islamists have adopted for their goal of Islamic Imperialism. But the pretense is the same in South America as that used in Lebannon to grow into a "state withing a state". I see this article as a good reason why tighter security on borders is necessary.
