The Day After

"Politics is not an event but a process. We sometimes lose the events but it never gives us the right to stop being faithful to our principles that enlisted us in the process. We shall live to fight another day."

I am comforted by a Tristan Gylberd quote about the importance of politics in relation to "the real drama of everyday banalities."

It is from your book, Lost Causes.

Thank you.

AMEN!

It is great to remember that Christ is in control, even over an Obama win. Thank the Lord that three states, including CA, succeeded in passing bans on homosexual marriage. There's no better sign that God is not through with America. The next four years are going to be tough, though!

Here are a couple of other good reminders from the past:

Jesus reigns absolute and supreme over the kings of the earth, and over-rules and controls them as he thinks proper; and he disposes all the revolutions, the rises and falls of kingdoms and empires, so as to be subservient to the great designs of his mediation; and their united policies and powers cannot frustrate the work which he has undertaken.
Besides these rebellious involuntary subjects, he has (blessed be his name!) gained the consent of thousands, and they have become his willing subjects by their own choice. They regard his authority, they love his government, they make it their study to please him, and to do his will. Over these he exercises a government of special grace here, and he will make them the happy subjects of the kingdom of his glory hereafter.
Jesus is equal to the immense province of a universal empire: his hand is able to hold the reins; and it is the blessing of our world to be under his administration. He will turn what appears to us scenes of confusion into perfect order, and convince all worlds that he has not taken one wrong step in the whole plan of his infinite government. — Samuel Davies, 1756 (at the beginning of the French & Indian War)

The truth is this: The march of Providence is so slow, and our desires so impatient; the work of progress is so immense and our means of aiding it so feeble; the life of humanity is so long, that of the individual so brief, that we often see only the ebb of the advancing wave and are thus discouraged. It is history that teaches us to hope. — Robert E. Lee (from a letter to Lt. Col. Charles Marshall, September 1870)

And another bit of wisdom from General Lee:

“The dominant party cannot reign forever, and truth and justice will at last prevail.” ~ General Lee writing to one of his sons, 26 February 1867.

I hope that the Republican party will reject the statist pragmatism of Bush and McCain and embrace federalism and constitutionalism, but I doubt that will happen.

To josh: It can happen, but its going to take voters who are informed and its going to take a new generation of politicians who understand the importance of federalism and the dangers of liberalism/socialism. Based on how our public schools are educating their charges, that could or could not happen. It should be interesting to see the beginnings of the homeschool and classical education movements hitting the world of politics in the future. Keep in mind, though, evangelical conservatism isn't dead. All three pro-marriage constitutional amendments passed!

Hey, great to see RW from Bayview(OPC) on this fine blog. We miss you and the beloved saints @ Bayview. I received your post here in an email from Sherry. Thank you for the reminders that we are to be about the work of the Lord and his Christ.

Obama is another false messiah. Just as Bush and many others were to their followers. We follow Christ.
