The Spirit of the Age and Christmas

This day,
In sadness borne,
We must confess:
The Spirit of the Age
Has crushed
The infant in the cradle.

And yet:
O glorious yet,
One day, in gladness shown,
We must profess:
The infant from the manger
Has crushed
The Spirit of the Age.

Beautiful. . . It was 10 or 11 years ago when I first emailed you and asked for permission to use this poem for our Christmas cards. Since then, I don't think I've missed a year sharing it -- it so captures the spirit of things. . .
